BandCentral was originally conceived and developed by real musicians who know the challenges and difficulties many bands today face. Technology offers a number of ways to streamline band management however no single tool existed to bring all the necessary elements together in a way that was easy to use. In order to remedy the situation, the creators of BandCentral came together to form an all inclusive tool that musicians can use to manage all aspects of their bands, including scheduling, collaboration and fans.
BandCentral stands out in the way it fills a much needed niche. There are many websites available that can help users schedule events, and others that help manage money or maintain files. BandCentral takes all of those things and brings them together in a way that is tailored to the needs of the typical band. Musicians can take care of all band-related tasks rather than only one or two.
BandCentral presents a sleek, professional layout and style that includes a cutting edge color scheme. The dark black and blue background provides an easy contrast against the lime green and white text. Navigating the site is very easy, with each link and header prominently displayed in a font that is not overly fancy. BandCentral combines enough unique elements to make the site original and creative, but not so many that they take away from the functionality and user’s ability to navigate the site.
A large blue button found at the bottom of the homepage directs new users to “sign up for free”. Clicking the button takes the visitor to the sign up page. Here, the user is asked for a first and last name, email address, time zone, and terms of service agreement. The second step requires email verification. After clicking the emailed verification link, the user is prompted to enter and confirm a password. The final step is to enter band details, including a band name, desired currency, genre, and level. Continuing from this point takes the user to the dashboard where all BandCentral features can be accessed.
New users are provided with a free 30 day account. To continue using BandCentral, users are required to purchase SMS credits. These start at as little as under $2 for 25 credits. There are thee membership options available to users. The first is a free account with ads. This account type allows up to four users, a limited band message board, band calendar, and social networking status syncing. A pro account costs under $10 a month and allows unlimited users, social network event syncing, 1 GB file storage, gigs and tour manager, a manager for merchandise, contacts, music, money, set lists and guest lists, email and SMS alerts, a fan database, and third party access. The third membership option is offered at a yearly rate of under $90. This account type includes all the same features with an upgrade to 2 GBs of file storage.
Musicians looking for a better, cost effective way to manage their band can benefit from a BandCentral account. For small, hobby bands, a free account option provides a few basic features. More serious musicians can sign up for a pro account and manage all aspects of their band, from merchandise and fans to set lists and scheduling.
